Abstract: The rice variety Yuehesimiao is a new high-yield and high-quality rice variety with a high harvest index, bred by the Rice Research Institute of Guangdong Academy of Agricultural Sciences. From 2014 to 2023, it has successively passed the variety approval or introduction filing in seven provinces including Guangdong, Jiangxi, Hubei, Anhui, Sichuan, Zhejiang and Henan. This variety has outstanding comprehensive traits of high yield, strong disease and stress resistance, and good grain quality. The variety has great potential for high yield. The average yield in the regional trial was 554.22 kg/667 m², and the high yield can reach 644.71 kg/667 m². The quality of the rice meets the national good grain grade 2 in Guangdong and Jiangxi. The quality of the rice meets the industry good-quality grade 3 in Hubei, and the yield and quality characteristics are stable. The harvest index of Yuehesimiao was relatively high（0.569）. It has strong resistance to lodging, good color and firmness in the later stage of ripening, broad-spectrum resistance to rice blast, low accumulation ability of heavy metals chromium and cadmium, and strong tolerance to arsenic. Yuehesimiao is also an excellent parent, especially suitable for use as a hybrid rice restorer line. A total of 49 hybrid rice varieties（72 times） were developed by Yuehesimiao and approved by national or provincial crop variety approval committee. Yuehesimiao has been listed as the leading variety in Guangzhou for nine consecutive years from 2017 to 2025. It has been listed as the leading variety in Guangdong Province for eight consecutive years from 2019 to 2026. In 2021, it was recognized as one of the first batch of varieties suitable for mechanized and direct seeding cultivation in Guangdong Province. The cumulative promotion area of Yuehesimiao has exceeded 368,000 hectares. It has broad production and application value in Guangdong Province and the rice-growing areas in the south.
