Abstract:
Guangdong Province has a time-honored tea production history and profound tea culture heritage. It has always been an important tea-producing area across the country and the largest tea consumption province in China, possessing dual advantages in both production and consumption. This paper systematically reviews the development status of Guangdong’s tea industry in the 14th Five-Year Plan period covering core fields such as tea planting and cultivation, tea category structure, regional layout, brand building and industrial integration. It focuses on introducing the major achievements of scientific and technological innovation in Guangdong’s tea sector, and analyzes the prominent problems existing in the industry at present, including the relatively small overall industrial scale, inadequate promotion of newly-bred fine tea varieties, weak infrastructure of tea gardens, low standardization and large-scale operation level of tea products, short industrial chain, and insufficient leading driving effect of benchmark enterprises. Based on the existing constraints and development bottlenecks of Guangdong’s tea industry, combined with the relevant policy support systems at national and provincial levels, this paper makes a forward-looking prediction on the development trend of Guangdong’s tea industry. It puts forward countermeasures and suggestions for highquality development, including building large-scale industrial clusters in light of local conditions, advancing the revitalization of tea seed industry, steadily promoting the construction of ecological tea gardens, deepening the cooperation among government, universities, research institutes and enterprises, expanding business entities and elevating brand influence. It aims to further fuel the high-quality development of Guangdong’s tea industry, and boost county economic enhancement, township and village development as well as rural industrial revitalization relying on the tea industry.
