Abstract:
The fresh waxy maize varieties Sukenuo 1801 (heat-resistant type) and Wannuo 2000 (heat-sensitive type) were used as the test materials. High temperature stress during anthesis period was conducted. The effects of high temperature stress on yield components, antioxidant enzyme activity, malondialdehyde content, pollen viability and starch content of different genotypes of fresh waxy maize hybrids were studied. The results showed that under the high temperature stress during anthesis period, the decreases in plot yield, panicle length, grains per row, fresh 100-grain weight and the increase in barren ear tip length of Sukenuo 1801 were smaller than those of Wannuo 2000. The increase of SOD, POD and CAT activities in Sukenuo 1801 were higher than those in Wannuo 2000, while the increase of MDA content was less than that in Wannuo 2000. The decreases in pollen viability and starch content of Sukenuo 1801 were less than those of Wannuo 2000. Therefore, we should pay more attention to the improvement and application of heat- resistant fresh waxy maize varieties in the high temperature damage maize region.
